Learn Hawaiian Place Names in 3 minutes-Kauai Island, Hawaii

In Hawaii English is spoken, but one encounters quite a few words in Hawaiian, especially place names. So the only problem I had was how to say the names of the places. They all looked and sounded practically the same to me. For each island, I found an authentic local person to teach me how to say the names of the major attractions. This is only a subset of the words, if you don’t find the names you are looking for, after watching this video, I am sure you can derive it. This is because the language has only 13 letters with 5 vowels and 8 consonants.

This video is for the Kauai island.

Driving/walking Around In Kauai Island, Hawai-UHD 4K

Driving/walking around in Kauai Island, you will see the Spouting Horn, the Poipu Beach Park and other beaches, Maluhia Road Tree Tunnel, Wailua Falls etc.

Spouting Horn: features a blowhole that’s one of the most photographed spots on Kauai, (water forced through a lava tube produces hissing and a plume of spray);

The Poipu Beach Park: on Kauai’s south shore, was once voted “America’s Best Beach.”

Maluhia Road Tree Tunnel : These pictures are not as great as you have seen from the movies, but it is quite unique, the scenery truly looks like it is from another time and another world. We went through it couple of times, once we had center view, the other I had camera on the site.

Wailua Falls: the waterfalls are beautiful, visble from the roadside viewing area although there is unforunately not much else up this road. There is limited parking with a small turn-around area..

Boat Tour Along Na Pali Coast, Kauai, Hawai-UHD 4K

No trip to Kauai is complete without seeing the Na Pali Coast, a must do in Kauai. We took a boat tour sailing along the coast of Na Pali, along the way we saw lots of sea life (such as turtles, dolphins), and waterfalls. The coast was so dramatic that is why Pirates of the Caribbean and King Kong had scenes shot there.

Have you ever seen a cave with an open ceiling? The sea caves along the Na Pali Coast are formed from the harsh wave action of the Pacific Ocean slamming into the porous lava. The first cave is actually a hollowed-out lava tube, and may have served as a place where ancient Hawaiians could rest in their canoes when traveling along the coast. We do not know what the early Hawaiians called this cave, hence the “Open Ceiling Cave” best describes it. This natural cathedral boasts turquoise blue water, massive walls, and a bright sunlit interior. On calm days, people can safely enter the Open Ceiling Cave in small boats. The interior is large enough to circle around and treat passengers to a view of the sky above through the enormous open ceiling.

The second cave we show you is long and deep. When we reached the end, it was pitch dark.

Kauai is millions of years older than the other inhabited islands in the Hawaiian island chain. To be honest, it does not offer the quantity or quality of snorkeling spots of say the Big Island or Maui — you may not find the coral to be colorful and exotic, although there is no doubt that the natural beauty of this location adds to the enjoyment of the snorkeling. Kauai is beautiful, and you can certainly enjoy being in the water, but don’t have great expectations for what you will see under the water. (And this is the only slightly negative thing we have to say about this gorgeous place.)

Hawaii Kauai Waimea Canyon-UHD 4K

Hawaii Kauai Waimea Canyon-UHD 4K

The outlook and hikes offer rich scenery into Waimea Canyon on Kauai’s West Side. Mark Twain called it “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” stretching 10 miles long, one mile wide and 3,000 feet deep. The Waimea Canyon Lookout provides panoramic views of crested buttes, rugged crags and deep valley gorges. The grand inland vistas go on for miles. The main road, Waimea Canyon Drive, leads you to a lower lookout point and the main Waimea Canyon Overlook, offering views of Kauai’s dramatic interior. The road continues into the mountains and ends at Kokee State Park from there are also numerous trails for beginners and for seasoned hikers. We found this map is useful:

Kauai Wailua River Kayak-Mud Hike-Secret Falls-HD 4K

We started by loading the kayak on top of the car and driving to the public access launch point. The Wailua river is wide where it meets the ocean with a weak current so paddling upriver presents no problem. A little ways up, it narrows down, and is quiet and very beautiful. You may leave your kayak and hop up at any spot that appeals to you along the way, but you should take the hike to the Secret Falls. If you just paddle up the river, you can’t miss the wide area on the right-hand bank where you can pull up your kayak and find the trail.

The hike was fun, but not easy: up, up, up, through mud, mud, and more mud. Besides the mud, we caught a few brief rain showers as well. Still, it was worth every bit of the trouble. For the first time ever, I was standing under a 100-foot waterfall. The water was pounding onto my head and back like a barrage of paintballs. This is the Secret Falls on Kauai Island in Hawaii.
