12 DIY Tools For Laminate Flooring Installation

Many times we buy a lot of tools when we start an DIY project. Some of the tools can be used elsewhere, but some of the tools are so specialized they will never be used again in other projects. If you are able to share tools among different projects, of course it will be more economical in the long term and you will have a less crowded tool shed. For those tools only limited to the laminate flooring installation, we have tested them and listed their prices. We also discuss whether you may use alternative tools or make the tools yourself.

Anyway, whether you already have a lot of tools from other projects, or have only limited tools this video would should suit your needs. We first discuss tools specialized for laminate flooring installation. And then we will list type of tools that are needed, i.e. the function of the tools that are needed so that you may match your existing tools inventory with the goal of the installation. If you don’t have many tools and you are not installing large areas, we will show you how to make some of the specialized tools. Note that a few tools at the beginning of the list are essential for this type of installation, while other tools later in the list may or may not be used depending on your requirement/configuration. This list focuses on the installation function; safety related items such as goggles, face mask and knee pads are not listed.

4 Step Minimal Waste Time Saving Laminate/Engineered Wood Installation

How can you have almost zero waste when you install laminate or engineered wood flooring? The laminate flooring salespeople recommend allowing for at least 5% waste. Still, when I installed the flooring from left to right, often I found the right plank was too short and I had to undo the whole row and start all over again. Thus even figuring I will waste 5% of materials (thus money), I can not guarantee I will not also waste time.

In this video, I will show you a very easy simple 4-step process that will not only allow you to save the material (the money) but also the time. In fact, the layout of the whole room can be predicted before the actual installation.

Leaf Lease Lessons Learned

The title is a tongue twister but it is not as hard as getting a new Nissan Leaf. I thought I was good at getting a new car but I still messed up a bit this time. I was quick and efficient, i.e. I sent out the price inquiry email one day, and next day went to the dealership, did the test drive and got the car. However I was not well prepared, got an unexpected price increase and a couple other surprises. I am sharing everything about getting a Nissan Leaf (either lease or purchase), so that you will do better than me. I hope this video will save you time and money.

It is easier if you make a cash purchase because you only need to the compare out-door price. For electrical vehicle, there are some good reasons to lease, but then there are more variables to compare, thus you need to watch this video. I will talk about what feature/option you should get, how to compare the prices/terms, energy rebates, caveat, VPP pricing etc.

Part 2, Google Voice Shutdown 3rd Party VoIP Interface

Part 2, Google Voice Shutdown 3rd Party VoIP Interface

This is a follow up of the first video, nothing has changed from Google, so you still need to act. Google Voice is going to shutdown the XMPP VoIP interface for 3rd party products such as ATA (for example Obihai device) or GrooVeIP app. This will happen after May 15, 2014. So at minimum you need to do something about it because after that date those 3rd party products will not be working.
While Google voice is still free through other interfaces, this will cause some inconvenience. The goal is to have free or very cheap voice services.
The first video is here:  http://fetv.com/google-voice-shutdown-3rd-party-voip-interface/

Short Layered Self Haircut Experiments & Mistakes To Avoid

Short Layered Self Haircut Experiments & Mistakes To Avoid

This is my first attempt at a self haircut. I hope by sharing my experiments, it would save you time and mistakes. My advice to the first timer:
1. Perform multiple rounds of experiments first: for example, first set 19mm as your target length to experiment once, and then set 16mm as your target to redo the same process. Once you have perfected the process, and you may then cut to the desired length. In this video I went as far as I could so that I could do more experiments.
2. It is pretty hard to control the amount of force you apply when you are cutting your own hair. If your trimmer has multiple thickness settings, the setting may slip if you apply too much force, which may result in unexpected hair cutting. You can use tape to hold the setting in place.
3. A mirror system is also important for the final trimming. In this video I have only used a single mirror, next video I will be showing a super easy setup dual mirror system.
4. Next video I will be showing guaranteed tapered final trimming.

10 Ways To Open A Wine Bottle

10 Ways To Open A Wine Bottle

If you don’t have a corkscrew, there are still many possible different ways to open a wine bottle. I classify various methods into 3 categories. Which one of the 10 ways is easier, safer & available? To save you the time, I review 10 different ways to open the bottle, make a few experiments to verify that they are working and compare the merits & effectiveness.

Toward the end of the video, at time 8:09 I will present the top ranking of the 10 methods. My chopstick method is the winner because it is usually available & easy to use although it has its limitations. The limitations of other methods are also discussed.

We can never skip fun in any video, if you want to impress your friends at the party and if your cork is inside the bottle, I will show you a way to take the cork out.

While Google voice is still free, this will cause some inconvenience. At the end of this video, I will give you one solution. Since we still have some time before May 20014, this video will focus on the big picture such as what is Google Voice, what is VoIP and how do they work. If needed, I will compare different alternatives in another video. The goal is to have free or very cheap voice services. This video also is a good starting point for people who want to cut the phone cord, stop paying your phone bill and move to something free or cheaper.
